By Stefanie Nordberg 8/19/04 The Big Sky Racing Association, (BSPRA) is featured at Race City Motorsports Park Saturday, August 28, 2004. The recently formed racing association fields 8-Rocky Mountain Pro-Stocks. Seven of these owner-drivers are past class champions at the Mission Valley Speedway. All driving teams originate from Lake County, Western Montana, near beautiful Flathead Lake. Fans are on the look out for a possible consecutive win by Brad Lee, driver of the #3 car, who took the win at BSPRA’s inaugural race in Ephrata, Washington on June 5, 2004. Lee, however, will have to keep his eyes on his bumper, due to the fact that all eight Rocky Mountain Pro-Stocks run within a half second of each other, per time-ins. Lee has already had to swallow the dust of his own back-up car during the Main Event race in Ephrata until driver of this #6 car, Carl Nordberg, began loosing air in a rear tire allowing both Lee and BSPRA points leader, Jarred Burland in the #43 to catch and pass Nordberg for first and second, respectively. Nordberg, who drives Lee’s back-up car, lead the race for 31 of the 40 laps. It is yet to be seen who will win at Race City, however with such a small difference between all eight car and drivers, Calgary’s BSPRA race is up for grabs and any one of the drivers could take home the honors. The Pro-Stock drivers, thanks to the Mission Valley Community of Businesses and supporters, are competing for a $3,000.00 purse for this Friendship Trail race at Calgary’s Race City Motorsports Park Speedway. For the race fans that join BSPRA in Calgary, please be sure to meet up with us for some Pit Hospitality: BSPRA's sponsor Community Banks, Polson, plans a special bar-b-q after the race hosted by Chef Bill Olson, Montana’s almost unpretentious King of the Backyard School of Cooking. Come meet the BSPRA members after the race in the pits. Let's start a Friendship Trail, by shaking hands in the pits after the main event. See you in Canada, eh? Reference: The intent of the Rocky Mountain Pro-Stocks as a racing class is to field a late model division, while avoiding continuously rising costs associated with unrestricted engines, while serving a quest for innovation in suspension components. Competing models are limited to 1983 or newer American or Canadian passenger car bodies, among other specified technical requirements.
